I PERFORM  FULL-MOUTH CORRECTION OF ALL TEETH,
INCLUDING INCISORS AND LAST MOLARS, as these teeth are typically over-looked by others.

I will examine and test the body of your horse, especially through the neck, head and shoulders.

I do not perform only incomplete and detrimental “cheek teeth” floating
that is commonly performed by less skilled equine dental technicians -
I address and correct ALL TEETH in your horse's mouth accordingly.

NOTE:
"Incomplete floating" ("cheek teeth" floating) will lead an owner/trainer to believe
that their horse has had his "annual" float - the horse's neglected teeth then
turn into chronic problems and painful conditions often left unresolved
for long periods of time until a  full-mouth equine dentist arrives.

"Overfloating" will shorten the length of the horse's tooth life, and, resultantly, his natural life.
In cases of "overfloating" the horse should have minimal floating - I suggest only for sharp points or hooks.  Excessive floating
shortens the tooth and thus shortens the life of the tooth.

In normal circumstances for young horses under 5, I employ hand tools
 by which "over-floating" is avoided.
When necessary or required for chronic conditions in the horse's mouth,
I will employ power tools. INCISOR REDUCTIONS, STEPS, and EXCESSIVE HOOKS
 are corrected by power tools.

I do not require your horse to be sedated for examination unless the horse exhibits dangerous behaviors,
or is unmanageable in the procedure. Full mouth examination can be done in most horses without
sedation. However, it is not always evident if a horse will accept dental work,
and every client should be prepared to have veterinary sedation available for administration.

Some horses may require the use of a twitch, or the assistance of another person for holding the
horse's head steady during some procedures.

ALL HORSES UPON WHOM I MUST USE POWER TOOLS
for chronic corrections and incisor reductions
WILL REQUIRE SEDATION PROVIDED BY YOUR VETERINARIAN,
and the assistance of head holding when tranquilized.

Clients are encouraged to observe the examination and the procedures
in order to better understand their horse’s dental/oral condition,
and what is required to accomplish a true and complete correction
of the horse’s mouth from front to back.

I have found
that equine behavioral problems can often be corrected by full mouth dentistry,
and shiatsu massage therapy and acupuncture, when a Veterinarian
has been unable to diagnose a condition.

Your horse will be examined before and after dental work. I will perform
POLL and NECK MASSAGE and STRETCHING and NATURAL ADJUSTMENTS
FOLLOWING THE EQUINE DENTAL PROCEDURES.

Again,
I work with all my clients to instruct them,
so that they can learn to understand and aide their horse independently.

My practice in Full-Mouth dentistry includes the following procedures as are necessary
and required depending on each horse’s mouth as it presents :

EXTRACTIONS of CAPS and CAP FRAGMENTS
(horses between approx. 2- 5 years old will lose their deciduous incisors and pre-molars .)
Retention of cap fragments can be the cause of behavioral problems.

WOLF TOOTH EXTRACTION
(typically males will have wolf teeth, but they occur in females at lower incidence.)
Veterinarians usually recommend that performance horses have wolf teeth extracted,
especially in cases of uni-lateral presentation.

EXTRACTIONS OF DECAYED OR LOOSE TEETH IN AGED HORSES
To prevent infection and relieve pain.
I am conservative in my approach to extractions and I prefer not to extract unless clearly necessary.
The horse's life is dependent upon the teeth in his mouth.

CANINE REDUCTION
By cutting and then polishing, or by floating without cutting, depending upon length and age.

BIT SEATS
For the premolars. I use a conservative approach to creating
bit seats in order to preserve the life of the teeth. The premolars
are the most "over-floated" teeth in the horse's mouth.

STEPS, WAVES, ROSTRAL AND CAUDAL HOOKS/RAMPS
Over-floating of only cheek teeth can be detrimental to the overall occlusion in the horse.
However, hooks and ramps in the second premolars and the last molars must be
 addressed and corrected accordingly.

ADDITIONAL EQUINE SERVICES

SHEATH CLEANING:
All colts and geldings require SHEATH CLEANING AND DE-BEANING to remove naturally
accumulating smegma that forms into bean sized particles behind the urethral tract.
Unlike others, I perform COMPLETE CLEANING AND DE-BEANING WITHOUT SEDATION.

EQUINE SHIATSU MASSAGE THERAPY:
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and have been practicing
Acupressure Massage for over 30 years.

ACUPUNCTURE:
I also do acupuncture for the Equine.
I prefer to do so without restraint or sedation other than crossties.
(Horses who do not accept acupuncture are not recommended for it.)

Remember

Regular and COMPLETE FULL- MOUTH DENTISTRY by a competent dental professional
on a bi-annual basis from age -2 to 5 1/2, and an annual basis after age 5 1/2,  will ensure
that your horse will not present with neglected dentition, lacerations, and abnormalities.
